Day Care

Our nationally recognized Day Care Program offers a nurturing, enriching and dynamic day care experience for Oak Park children in grades K-5 after school, on school holidays and during the summer months.

Each year, this award-winning program serves a population of nearly 600 school-aged children from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds—fulfilling a critical need in the Oak Park community for affordable, school-age day care.

Our Day Care activities are designed to help children achieve their full social, emotional and intellectual potential by fostering the development of a wide variety of skills, as well as social competence and a positive self-image. Children gain experience in areas such as arts and crafts, group games, movement and music, field trips and physical activities such as swimming and ice skating.

What makes Hephzibah’s Day Care Program unique is the comprehensive array of social services offered to families with children enrolled in the program. This critically important facet of our Day Care Program enhances the lives of hundreds of families each year with social and mental health services that include:

  • Individual, group and family interventions
  • Staff consultations, case management and advocacy
  • Referrals for assistance with housing, food and clothing
  • Referrals for services or information regarding financial assistance, public assistance, disability assistance, medical and mental health services, vocational assistance, recreational activities, mentoring, tutoring, legal assistance and educational opportunities
  • Direct assistance with bus passes, gas money, transportation, grocery store gift certificates, clothing, shoes, sporting equipment, school supplies, furniture, food, toys, respite services, personal items and other family needs

In the event of inclement weather (extremely cold or snowy conditions), Hephzibah’s policy regarding the closing of our sites is the same as that of the Oak Park Schools. If District #97 schools are closed due to inclement weather, Hephzibah will also be closed. See your Oak Park District #97 Parent Handbook for emergency school closing information. On the days that District #97 closes its school buildings early (at 3 p.m.), Hephzibah will also be closed.

Hephzibah’s Day Care Program is funded through parent fees, community contributions, state and federal grants and the Illinois Department of Human Services.

Office Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Day Care Enrollment Information

Children from Oak Park whose parents are working, in school or in training are eligible for Hephzibah’s Day Care program. Twenty percent of the children we serve come from low-income households. Fees are assessed on a sliding scale and offset by financial aid when necessary to ensure that children from low-income families have the same opportunities for growth and enrichment as their peers. Children are accepted as space allows, according to DCFS licensing regulations, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Families not currently enrolled in Hephzibah After-School Program:

Registration for children entering grades 1-5 is ongoing. Please complete an application for enrollment which is found online and return to Annette Anderson. Acceptance is on an ongoing basis, as openings arise. Families requesting care for next school year will be notified in May if a space is available. If one is not available at that time, the child will go on a waiting list, and notified as soon as a space becomes available.

Registration for children entering kindergarten is throughout the month of April, with a lottery held on May 2nd. Families will be notified during the first week of May if a space is available. If one is not available at that time, the child will go on a waiting list, and will be notified as soon as a space becomes available. Kindergarten applications submitted after April 30th will automatically go on a waiting list.

Families currently enrolled in Hephzibah After-School Program:

Registration for next school year for children entering grades 1–5 is in February. A registration form will be sent with the February Get Hep newsletter. For children entering kindergarten who currently have siblings enrolled in the program, please complete an application for enrollment and return to Annette Anderson before February 28.
